More than 95% of educational institutions in the Kyiv region can operate autonomously for more than 8 hours. This covers schools, kindergartens and vocational schools, where learning is meant to continue even during long power cuts.

This was reported by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.

Autonomous operation is provided by uninterruptible power supplies, batteries and generators. In total, the region’s educational institutions have 2,110 generators: 1,199 in schools and 911 in kindergartens.

Another 58 educational institutions already have solar power plants with a total capacity of more than 1.2 MW. This year solar panels, energy-saving equipment and new lighting are due to appear in 14 more.

In the Boryspil, Pirnove and Vyshhorod communities this work has already been completed. State support for energy efficiency measures has been received by 28 educational institutions, with the work co-financed together with the communities.

Other communities in the Bucha district are also preparing for winter: Hostomel received four solar stations and six generators for its facilities.

As a reminder, in October the government decided how schools should teach children during long air raid alerts.
