The government has adopted a decision on teaching during prolonged air raid alerts. It also applies to schools in the Bucha community and the whole district.

This was announced by the Cabinet of Ministers on 15 October. Communities are to help schools adapt teaching to the security situation.

How children will learn

Each school will decide on its own teaching model depending on the security situation and the capacity and equipment of its shelter. Lessons may take place in classrooms, in shelters or combine in-person and remote formats.

Communities may also use other equipped shelters for lessons. Timetables must be flexible and teaching formats predictable. Parents should know in advance how lessons will be organised so they can plan their day.

If a shelter does not allow all lessons to be held in person, priority will go to mathematics, natural sciences, language and literature, civic education and history. Other subjects can be studied remotely if needed.

What shelters must be like

Shelters of schools teaching in person must be suitable for children to stay in for a long time. They need workplaces, lighting, backup power, internet and proper sanitary conditions.

The Ministry of Education will monitor implementation of the decision every month.

During an air raid alert, staying in a shelter is mandatory.

In the Bucha community, schools are already working out ways to feed pupils during air raid alerts.

As a reminder, a former village school principal now heads the Bucha community’s education department.
