Irpin wants to start building a shelter at the Mriia lyceum this year. It will cost more than 100 million hryvnias. The local budget has allocated 20 million hryvnias, and a tender is under way.

Irpin’s acting mayor Anzhela Makeieva announced this.

She raised the shelter at an away meeting in Irpin of the Verkhovna Rada temporary special commission on the northern border regions and the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster.

Makeieva asked the commission members to help make the project a funding priority. At the meeting community representatives could discuss their needs directly with restoration minister Mykola Kalashnyk.

The meeting was initiated by commission chair Arsenii Pushkarenko and MP Ivan Shynkarenko. Deputy heads of the Kyiv regional administration Nataliia Havatiuk and Ivan Dobrovolskyi also took part.

Irpin needs new schools and kindergartens. The number of children in the community is growing, and so is the need for schools. We cannot talk about building new schools without first making our children safe.

According to Makeieva, funding for such large projects had been delayed by the war, but the government is now gradually resuming support for building shelters.
