The Bucha community and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) are drafting a feasibility study for the Energy Island project. It is intended to make six key district heating facilities in the community more resilient.
This was reported by the Bucha City Council.
To achieve this, the facilities are to use cogeneration units, solar power plants and energy storage systems. A feasibility study is a precondition for attracting international funding for the project.
Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk discussed the next steps with Ralf Grotenhoff, head of the construction component of the SUR project at GIZ, during his visit to Bucha. According to the city council, at least a year of work lies ahead.
The project is implemented under the Strengthening Urban Resilience in Municipal Services (SUR) programme, part of German transitional aid from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
As a reminder, modular towns in Bucha and Vorzel are getting solar power plants.
