This winter in Ukraine, and therefore in the Bucha area, may be 1–2 degrees warmer than the climate norm. Frosts are still possible, however.

This was said by Nataliia Ptukha, head of media communications at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre.

According to her, both global meteorological centres and the centre’s own specialists give this forecast. The reason is westerly, Atlantic air mass transport, which is expected to dominate during the cold season this year.

Cold periods can still happen, meaning incursions of cold Arctic air. These periods may of course be shorter and not so long, but the preconditions for them always remain here.

November is also expected to be slightly warmer than normal: the month’s average temperature, according to the forecast, will be one degree higher, between 2 and 8 degrees above zero.

Ptukha stressed that long-range forecasts only show a trend. For planning, it is better to rely on short-range forecasts covering three to five days.

As a reminder, Ukraine switched to winter time last night.
