When the power goes out, you want something hot and filling without a long time at the stove. American food blogger Kyle Istook showed a lazy lasagna made with instant noodles: everything goes into the dish in a few minutes, and the heat does the rest.

Kyle Istook shared the recipe himself on Facebook, and Cherie FM wrote about it.

The blogger first showed the dish back in 2024, and his new Facebook video got more than 275,000 views within a day of being posted.

What you need

  • 6 dry blocks of instant noodles and 2 of their seasoning sachets, chicken or beef
  • a jar of marinara sauce, about 680 g
  • 360 ml heavy cream
  • 250 g ricotta
  • about 220 g grated mozzarella
  • pepperoni slices
  • Parmesan and Italian herbs to taste
  • a little oil to grease the dish

How to make it

1. Lay out the noodles. Grease the dish with oil and place six blocks of noodles on the bottom without cooking them.

2. Add the sauce. Sprinkle over two seasoning sachets, pour in the whole jar of sauce, then add the cream and ricotta. Stir right in the dish until the sauce turns pink.

3. Top with cheese. Spread the mozzarella and pepperoni evenly on top and sprinkle with Parmesan and herbs.

4. Bake. Bake uncovered for about 50 minutes at 175 °C until the cheese is golden. In that time the noodles underneath cook through completely, Istook says.

If there is no power

A gas oven will do the job just as in the original. If you only have a gas hob or a camping stove, Cherie FM suggests trying the same method in a deep, heavy-bottomed frying pan, the way skillet lasagna is made.

Cover the pan with a lid and keep it over a low heat until the noodles are soft and the cheese has melted. This is an adaptation rather than the author’s own method, so check under the lid often so nothing burns.
