The Bucha community is the first in Ukraine to join the national Veteran and Community project. As part of the initiative, the city will get a new strategy to support veterans.
This was reported by Bucha City Council.
The project is run by Heart of Azovstal at the initiative of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, together with the Kyiv School of Economics, America’s Warrior Partnership and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
For three days, specialists, council departments and veteran support staff worked out the basis for change. The main goal is to merge dozens of support programmes into one clear mechanism.
Participants worked through legal navigation and data, cooperation with recruitment centres, communication with the military, and memorialisation. This work will form the basis of the local strategy.
Next, the community faces a month and a half of work with mentors. In that time Bucha will draw up a step-by-step action plan, prepare budget decisions and test the updated routes with veterans themselves.
As a reminder, veterans in Bucha are being taught free of charge how to run their own business.
