Restoration of Lyceum No. 1 in Makariv is to be sped up so that classes can begin here as early as December. The school was badly damaged during the fighting in the Kyiv region in 2022.
This was reported by the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, who inspected the progress of the works on 5 November.
In 2022, the building’s load-bearing structures, roof and facade were damaged, and it was declared unsafe. Now, according to Tkachenko, it already has renovated classrooms, a gym and a canteen, new utility networks and security systems.
Together with the contractor and the client’s service, solutions were worked out on site to speed up completion. “Our task now is to prevent any further delays,” Tkachenko stressed.
Tymur Tkachenko showed what the lyceum looks like now in a video.
Who is funding the restoration
The major repair of the lyceum at 5 Osvity Street is funded by the European Investment Bank, and the contractor is DYPROINBUD LLC. The works are monitored by independent technical supervision and a UNDP technical support team, the Kyiv Regional State Administration reported.
The project also includes thermal modernisation, modern warning, ventilation and fire alarm systems, and landscaping of the grounds. Before the full-scale invasion, 1,057 pupils studied at the lyceum.
As a reminder, in Makariv a section of a five-storey block was demolished to the foundations and rebuilt, and 15 families have moved back in.
