On 31 October the public library of the Bucha community brought together friends, colleagues and admirers of Leonid Cherevatenko. He would have turned 88 that day.
Bucha City Council reported this.
The evening was organised by the Berehyni Myru charity foundation. Members of the SVICHADO young artists’ club read Cherevatenko’s poems, and family and colleagues shared memories and stories from his life.
Leonid Cherevatenko was born on 31 October 1938 in Dnipro, lived in Bucha and died in 2014. He was a poet, film critic and screenwriter who wrote for the Dovzhenko Film Studio, including the film Road to the Sich.
In 2002 he received the Shevchenko National Prize for the documentary film trilogy I Am a Stone from God’s Sling. In 2023 Irpin renamed Vysotskoho Street in his honour.
As a reminder, veteran Valentyn Oleksiienko’s paintings, made with the wheels of his wheelchair, are on show in Bucha.
