FC Bucha Fortuna lost 1-2 to Tytan from Kyiv on Wednesday, 14 October, in the first leg of the Ukrainian Amateur Cup quarter-final. The game at the Yuvileinyi stadium was interrupted by an air raid alert for more than an hour.

This is based on our live text commentary and the match recording. The quarter-final dates were confirmed by the Amateur Football Association of Ukraine.

How it happened

Before kick-off fallen heroes were honoured with a minute of silence, and the Yuvileinyi marked its 25th anniversary. Because of the ceremony the game started late, at 11:23, and in the 4th minute it was stopped by an air raid alert. The all-clear only came at 12:32.

After the restart Tytan pressed, but Bucha’s defenders threw themselves in front of shots. Bucha replied through Mykyta Dzen, and visiting goalkeeper Roman Pazenko made a superb save from a first-time shot. The first half ended 0-0.

After the break Mykyta Makhynia replaced Ihor Nesterenko. But in the 49th minute Roman Tkachenko went down the right and finished with his left foot for 0-1, and in the 53rd minute Oleh Yankovskyi doubled the lead after a mistake in Bucha’s defence.

Bucha replied in the 68th minute: after Dmytro Melnychuk’s pass into the box referee Oleh Olkhovskyi awarded a penalty, and Makhynia scored it. Late on Kristian Turku and Pazenko were booked after a scuffle, but the score did not change.

What the game showed

Four minutes decided the match. The game was even until half-time, and early in the second half Tytan took both of their chances. As soon as the visitors got a little space, Bucha conceded.

Pazenko on form again. The Tytan goalkeeper kept out a first-time shot in the first half and Yevhenii Zadoia’s free kick in the second. He was the one who stopped Bucha from levelling.

The alert broke the rhythm. After a stoppage of more than an hour in the 4th minute, both teams had to warm up again. In effect, the game started twice.

Bondarenko’s changes produced a goal. Makhynia, who came on at half-time, scored the penalty, and Bucha pushed for a second goal until the end. Bucha played without captain Vasyl Koropetskyi, who is out with a torn muscle.

The tie is still alive. In the previous round Bucha also lost the first leg to Rokyta 0-1, then fought back at home and went through on penalties.

What’s next

The return leg is scheduled for 21 October. To reach the semi-finals in normal time, Bucha need to win by two goals, while a one-goal win would take the tie to extra time. The organisers plan to hold the semi-finals in spring 2027.

As a reminder, on 7 October the first leg never started because of an air raid alert.
