A memorial plaque has been unveiled on the facade of Irpin Lyceum No. 2 in honour of its graduate Andrii Vasylenko, who was killed defending Ukraine. He finished the school in 1996.
This was reported by Irpin’s first deputy mayor Oleksandr Pashchynskyi.
Andrii was born and grew up in Irpin. After school he graduated from the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and worked as an engineer.
After the full-scale invasion began, in June 2022, Andrii volunteered for the Armed Forces. He served as a grenade launcher operator in the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade and fought in the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Andrii was killed on 20 April 2023 at the age of 43. His family remember him as a gentle person: he loved cycling and dreamed of climbing Hoverla with his younger brother.
Andrii Vasylenko was posthumously named an Honorary Citizen of Irpin.
As a reminder, on Defenders Day Bucha and Irpin honoured their heroes.
