Schools in the Irpin community have been working in a combined format since Thursday. Primary classes stay in the classroom, while the rest have moved online for now.

Yuliia Osinska, deputy mayor of Irpin, announced the change.

Every school has decided which classes keep coming in. Priority went to younger pupils, who are not ready for full remote learning and need a teacher beside them.

During an alert primary classes go down to the shelter with their teacher and carry on with the material there. Parents get the details from their own schools.

The decision rests on a letter from the Ministry of Education of 3 November 2023: once an alert is announced, lessons must stop and everyone must move to a shelter in an orderly way.

The day before, the alert in the region lasted more than nine hours. Acting mayor Anzhela Makeieva explained that the community monitors the security situation constantly.

Please treat such decisions with understanding, because our people’s lives are at stake.

The council asks people not to ignore the sirens, to find the nearest shelter near home and work in advance and to keep essentials and chargers ready.

As a reminder, schools in the Bucha community are also looking for a new format.
