The Bucha community is looking for a lesson format that will keep children safe and still let them study properly. The reason is more frequent and longer air raid alerts.

We remain convinced that in-person learning gives children the best knowledge, live communication and the socialisation they need.

The education department is consulting school principals and parents. Families differ: some cannot leave children at home for remote study, others are anxious about sending them to school given the intensity of the threats.

Several options are on the table. One is a mixed format, for example a week on and a week off. Another is a split one, with primary school in person and senior pupils online.

The council says senior pupils are better able to organise their own time, which is why the remote format is being considered for them.

We are looking for the most balanced solution that takes account of every family and helps keep the quality of education high.
