The blood donor day took place on 1 October at the Bucha consultative and diagnostic centre on Kovalskoho Street, on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. More than 20 residents of the Bucha community gave blood.

This was reported by Bucha City Council.

It is symbolic that the drive fell on the defenders’ holiday, the council stresses: blood is especially needed by soldiers who risk their lives every day defending the country. One donation, medics remind, can save up to three lives.

“Every donation can become someone’s chance at life. So join the donors, your blood may be needed right now,” the city council urged.

Anyone aged 18 or over and weighing more than 50 kilograms can become a donor and should bring a passport, the conditions the council gave before the September Krovni Pobratymy drive.

Before donating, medics advise avoiding painkillers and aspirin for three days and alcohol for 48 hours, skipping fatty, fried, dairy and smoked food the day before, and not smoking for at least an hour before the procedure.

As a reminder, the previous donor day at the centre, on 16 September, collected 10 litres of blood.
