Captain Oleksandr Zhyvotovskyi from Bucha has been awarded the Silver Cross, an honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The award was presented on 8 October.
This was reported by the local outlet Thebuchacity. The award is given to officers for successfully commanding personnel in combat.
Oleksandr has been fighting since 2014. He volunteered for the Armed Forces back then and later served with Azov, fighting for Lyman and Sloviansk, on the border with russia and for Donetsk airport.
For the defence of Donetsk airport Zhyvotovskyi was awarded the Order For Courage. Alongside his service, he was a member of Bucha city council for the Svoboda party.
During a combat operation in the Zaporizhzhia direction that lasted more than three months, Oleksandr was wounded. After brief treatment he turned down leave and returned to his unit.
As a reminder, on Defenders Day Hostomel honoured 20 veterans and soldiers.
