The Bucha community was represented at the country's main investment venue by Deputy Mayor Dmytro Cheichuk. The congress gathered more than six thousand participants, and the panel discussions covered three themes: housing reconstruction, industrial development and energy independence for cities.

Bucha City Council announced the community's participation on its Telegram channel. The presentation was built around the principle of "Build Back Better" — rebuilding better than it was before the destruction.

Six solar plants are already running

Among the things already done, Cheichuk named six solar power plants at critical infrastructure sites, the restored Vokzalna Street and the Central Kitchen that now prepares meals for the community's schools. These are three different fields: energy, roads and social infrastructure.

For Bucha, Vokzalna is more than a street. Footage of it travelled around the world's media in spring 2022, and its restoration is what the city most often shows as proof that reconstruction is happening off paper as well as on it.

112 megawatts of distributed generation

The next step the community brought to the congress is building distributed generation facilities with a combined capacity of 112 megawatts. This means a network of small power sources instead of one large plant: such a scheme withstands strikes on the grid better, because hitting a single node does not leave the whole city without electricity.

The second major project is a municipal wastewater treatment system. For a community under active construction this is a bottleneck: without treatment facilities of its own, the volume of new housing runs up against the capacity of the existing networks.

What the city offers in return

"Rebuilding on the Build Back Better principle is our baseline reference point. After severe trials, the community is building a new economic and energy foundation," Dmytro Cheichuk stressed during the panel discussion.

The community's presentation set out its current scale: around 72,000 residents, almost 12,000 internally displaced people, 14 settlements across more than 260 square kilometres. These figures shape the demand for the capacity the city is discussing with investors.
