Athletes from the Maksymus club in the Bilohorodka community won two medals at the ITF Taekwon-Do World Cup in Benidorm, Spain. Both medals came in team events.

The Bilohorodka Village Council reported the news. It said the national team numbered 70 people: athletes, coaches, referees, a team doctor and officials.

Gold and bronze in team events

Mariia Honcharuk won gold in team sparring. Viktoriia Usova took bronze in team patterns (tul), the set sequences of movements in ITF Taekwon-Do.

The athletes were coached by Viktoriia Honcharuk. According to the village council, the results reflect hard training, discipline and a great deal of work by the whole team.

The council congratulated the athletes and their coach on their international medals. It called their victories further proof that young athletes from the community’s sports clubs do Ukraine proud on the world stage.

Ukraine second in the medal table

Team sparring proved especially successful for Ukraine’s young athletes. According to the International Taekwon-Do Federation, the All-Ukrainian Taekwon-Do Union won all four team sparring events for black belts aged 12 to 17.

Competition at the 10th ITF World Cup ran in Benidorm from 29 September to 3 October. As the federation noted, the event broke records for size, with 2,564 competitors on the mat: 1,128 female and 1,436 male.

The ITF World Cup is a club event. According to the federation, medals were awarded in 218 categories, and the country table was compiled by adding up the medals of all clubs.

Ukrainian clubs combined finished second in the country medal table, with 22 gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze medals. Argentina came first with 144 medals, 35 of them gold.

What Maksymus athletes have won before

This is not the first international success for either athlete. In October 2025, at the ITF World Championship in Poreč, Croatia, Mariia Honcharuk became world champion, while Viktoriia Usova won bronze.

In March, Maksymus won 19 medals at the Roma Open international tournament in Rome, 10 of them gold. Both athletes were among the medallists.

Their coach holds the titles of Honoured Coach of Ukraine and Master of Sport of International Class. Maksymus is also known for its kickboxers: in 2024, the club won the team standings at the Kyiv Region Open WAKO Kickboxing Championship.

As a reminder, taekwondo athletes from Bucha’s Vulkan club brought home 13 medals from the Spinner Cup tournament in Lviv. The event brought together about 300 athletes from different Ukrainian cities.
