Since the beginning of the year, 1,846 fires have broken out in natural ecosystems in the Kyiv region. Such blazes destroy vegetation, pollute the air and often threaten homes and forests.

The figures were released by the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region.

Fire also takes lives

On 3 August, in the village of Mazepyntsi in the Bila Tserkva district, one person died and another was injured in a stubble fire.

Rescuers stress that most ecosystem fires are caused by human carelessness rather than natural factors. A single careless act costs destroyed nature, property and even lives.

What not to do in the heat

Do not burn dry vegetation, stubble or rubbish. Do not leave campfires unextinguished. Do not throw cigarette ends or matches onto dry grass. Do not light fires near forests, fields or peatlands.

If you spot a fire, call 101 immediately rather than waiting for it to spread. The best fire is the one that was prevented.
