Petrol stations in Kyiv region will get access to a special digital air-awareness system used by the Defence Forces. Responsible staff will see the movement of enemy air targets in real time and be able to decide faster how to operate during a threat.

The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, announced this on 15 September. Access is granted by decision of the Kyiv Region Defence Council and coordinated by the administration.

What changes for drivers

Until now filling stations relied only on the general air-raid alert — and stopped or carried on at their own discretion. Now staff will have data on the specific threat and can react in advance: close the station, take people to a shelter or, conversely, keep working if the target is heading elsewhere.

In simple terms: petrol stations will no longer have to rely only on the general air-raid alert. They will have more information about the specific threat and will be able to react in advance to protect staff and the people on the station’s premises.

The enemy’s latest attacks show that petrol stations and other fuel infrastructure are also under threat. So we have to stay one step ahead in the new conditions.

The administration head urged drivers to take danger warnings seriously and follow the instructions of station staff during alerts. How exactly the access will work and when all chains will get it, the administration has not yet detailed.

Why petrol stations

Fuel infrastructure has become a regular target. According to Naftogaz Group, in the first seven months of 2026 alone russian attacks destroyed 37 filling stations in its network — 32 Ukrnafta stations and five Ukrgasvydobuvannya sites, with some hit again after repairs.

The attacks on Kyiv region continue. In the 24 hours to 15 September, according to the administration, seven sites were damaged in the Boryspil, Brovary and Bucha districts: private houses, a hangar, vehicles and a municipal facility. Nobody was hurt.
