Roman and Andrii Pryshchepa from the Makariv community spent a week at a training camp with the veterans’ team VolleyBrothers. The team then became Ukraine’s first-ever sitting volleyball champion among veterans.
This was reported by the Makariv settlement council.
Both play for Ukraine’s men’s national sitting volleyball team and promote adaptive sport. VolleyBrothers representatives asked them to help prepare the team.
How the first championship went
The championship took place on 12–13 September in Lviv, at the Lviv State University of Life Safety, as part of the Veterans Games 2026. 174 veterans competed in 11 teams, working with 10 coaches.
The players were combat veterans and people with war-related disabilities. First place went to the Kyiv region team VolleyBrothers, second to Steel Knights from Lutsk and third to VRC Invasport KhNUVS from Vinnytsia.
Next in the table were Yastruby MHP from Ternopil region, Neskoreni from Kryvyi Rih, Rivnenshchyna, MSK Dnipro MHP from Cherkasy, MHP Tytany from Vinnytsia region, Pivnichnyi Forpost from Chernihiv region and Nezlamni from Sumy.
What comes next: selection for Valencia
The results will determine the team for the final of the Veterans Games 2026. They will also count when the national team is picked for the international Veterans Games in Valencia.
National team players from Makariv
This is not the first time the community has honoured the Pryshchepas. On 17 September, for Physical Culture and Sports Day, the Makariv council awarded them as players of the national team that represents Ukraine abroad.
In May Roman and Andrii won bronze with the national team at an international tournament in Sarajevo, and in summer 2025 bronze at the European Championship.
As a reminder, two players from Bucha, Roman Sukhostav and Serhii Hurduza, are among the champions.
