Forty children were born at the Irpin maternity hospital in July. Girls outnumbered boys by half

The figures for 1 to 31 July were published by Irpin City Council. The gender split this month proved noticeably uneven: 24 girls against 16 boys.

Such a skew within a single month and a small sample is ordinary statistical chance rather than a trend. Nationwide the ratio is traditionally close to even, with a slight majority of boys.

Why the figure matters to the community

For Irpin, which lived through the occupation of its outskirts and a mass exodus of residents in 2022, a working maternity hospital is a marker no less telling than the number of repaired buildings. Families who return and plan children do so where there is somewhere to give birth.

Forty children a month is roughly one and a half a day. For a city maternity hospital that is a steady working figure, without peak loads.

The city council reminds parents that the package of services for newborns is available through the eMaliatko service on the Diia portal. It combines birth registration, childbirth benefit, registration of the child's residence and other services into a single application.
