Twenty-four hours without a break: eight cyclists from Irpin have gone to Germany

Eight young cyclists from the Irpin youth sports school have set off for Germany. There they will represent Ukraine at a 24-hour cycling marathon.

The trip was announced by Irpin's first deputy mayor Oleksandr Pashchynskyi.

The marathon takes place by Hainer See lake near Leipzig. Participants pedal for 24 hours in a row, taking turns.

Irpin is sending eight athletes and two coaches of the VELOSCHOOL IRPIN CYCLING team. The event is organised by the German cycling community Tretpiraten and is a charity one.

Besides the race, the programme includes joint training with Tretpiraten Borna, a meeting with Borna mayor Oliver Urban, a trip to Leipzig and the zoo.

The visit was arranged by the Active Borna civic organisation and Irpin City Council with support from sponsors. Borna is Irpin's twin town.

As a reminder, Irpin has already received four buses from Germany — they were being prepared for 1 September.
