A case of rabies has been confirmed in the Makariv community of the Bucha district. The animal was a stray cat in the village of Mykolaivka, on the grounds of the Mekhanik allotment association.

This was announced by the Makariv settlement council.

Where the restrictions apply

The diagnosis was confirmed on 9 September, and quarantine restrictions were introduced the same day. They will remain in force until 9 November — that is, for two months.

Ten villages have been included in the threat zone:

  • Berezivka;
  • Kolonshchyna;
  • Vyshehrad;
  • Havronshchyna;
  • Makovyshche;
  • Marianivka;
  • Plakhtianka;
  • Severynivka;
  • Motyzhyn;
  • Kopyliv.

What owners should do

Dogs and cats need to be vaccinated against rabies. The community stresses that the vaccination is free.

Appointments can be booked on three numbers: 050 259 09 90 — Ella Kudlai, 097 759 67 56 — Hennadii Bilynevych, 097 740 51 17 — Ihor Nedzelskyi.

Residents are separately asked not to let their pets come into contact with stray or wild animals. If such contact has happened, or an animal is behaving strangely, it must not be caught single-handedly — the relevant services should be contacted straight away.

Earlier we reported that Irpin allocated 1.4 million hryvnias for stray animals.
