In the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, Bucha district, a drunk driver of a Hyundai Sonata left the roadway and hit a woman walking on the sidewalk. The Kyiv region police reported the accident on Wednesday, 16 September.

What the police established at the scene

According to preliminary police data, the Hyundai Sonata was driven by a 22-year-old man under the influence of alcohol. He lost control of the car, left the road and ran into a 58-year-old local resident. The pedestrian sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.

A Dräger breathalyser test showed 1.23 per mille of alcohol for the driver. The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

What charge he faces

Investigators of the Bucha district police department opened a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: violation of road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused bodily injuries to the victim.

The Kyiv region police urge drivers not to get behind the wheel while intoxicated and to strictly follow the Traffic Rules.

As a reminder, in late July a truck hit a 22-year-old motorcyclist at an intersection in Horenychi: the 49-year-old Volvo driver entered the crossing on a red light, the electric motorcycle rider died at the scene, and the truck driver was served a notice of suspicion.
