A new place to play has appeared in Makariv: the Children’s Smiles playground has opened in Molodizhnyi Park, with swings, slides and structures for active games. Children are already playing there.
This was announced by Makariv mayor Vadym Tokar.
According to him, it all started with parents. They did not just come up with the idea — they found a grant opportunity and entered a competition run by the MHP-Hromadi charitable foundation.
Once grant support was guaranteed, the Makariv settlement council, Ukrainian businesses and international partners joined the project.

According to the project sign, it took two years to get from idea to opening, from 2024 to 2026. Partners include Fragola-DZh LLC, the Belgian Nicole Foundation and the US clubs East West Karate and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Richboro.

The playground is not the only change planned for the town’s public spaces. The Makariv settlement council has invited residents to take a survey on what they want Makariv’s public space to look like.
Based on the results, one place will be chosen to be improved and transformed together with local young people in the spring. The survey is part of a memorandum with Urban Futures.
The questionnaire is anonymous and takes about 20 minutes. Anyone who lives, studies or works in Makariv or regularly uses its public spaces can take part: take the survey.
As a reminder, in the summer 15 families in Makariv moved back into a block section that had been demolished to its foundations and rebuilt.
