A memorial room dedicated to Liubov Panchenko opened on 23 September at the Bucha Centre of Culture and Arts, which bears the artist’s name, Bucha City Council reported. Liubov Panchenko was an outstanding Ukrainian artist of the Sixtiers generation, a laureate of the Vasyl Stus Prize and an honorary citizen of Bucha.

What is in the collection

The room is built around a memorial collection assembled by the charitable foundation Berehynia Myru. It includes materials rescued from the artist’s house after the fighting: sketches, drafts, unfinished works and personal belongings.

Liubov Panchenko’s house in Bucha was damaged during the russian occupation, and some of the surviving items bear traces of shelling and fire. The artist herself died on 30 April 2022, after living through the occupation.

More than a museum

The room is meant to be more than a museum display: art workshops, themed cultural evenings, history meetings and discussions are planned there.

Visits are by appointment on 066 404 73 79.

In the spring, a memorial plaque to the artist was unveiled on the centre’s façade — and the plans for the memorial room were announced the same day.
