In early March 2022 Oleksandr Ivashchyk joined a volunteer team in shelled Irpin. He took people's requests and delivered food and medicine.

He was remembered by Irpin's first deputy mayor Oleksandr Pashchynskyi.

Back then the evacuation from Irpin ran under fire, and every trip into the town was a separate risk. Volunteers drove people out and brought in what the town could not survive without.

Oleksandr Ivashchyk was killed on 13 March in Irpin under russian shelling.

World Humanitarian Day, marked on 19 August, has a particular meaning for Irpin. Here it is not an international date but the memory of specific people.

The city council stresses that Ivashchyk's story is one of many. Those who saved others and did not survive themselves are remembered here by name.

As a reminder, a doctor from Boiarka was killed while evacuating the wounded.
