A minute of silence by the church walls: Bucha honoured those killed by the occupiers

Bucha has honoured the memory of residents whose lives were taken by the russian occupation. The event was held on Ukraine's Independence Day at the Church of St Andrew the Apostle.

This was reported by Bucha City Council.

A shared prayer and a minute of silence commemorated all those killed — those who did not live to see liberation, a return home, or a reunion with their families.

It was on the grounds of this church that a mass grave stood in spring 2022. The bodies of Bucha residents were exhumed from there once the town was liberated.

People came with flowers. They stood in silence — families, neighbours, those who lived through those 33 days and stayed in the town.

The community stressed that remembering is a duty, and calling things by their names is a responsibility.

Their lives became part of the history of the community and of Ukraine. The council underlined that it will not let the truth about these crimes be erased.

As a reminder, Bucha went from a village to a town the world knows by name.
