The "Together to Victory" volunteer group in Zdvyzhivka, Bucha district, produced 36 camouflage nets for Ukrainian defenders over the past month. Work at the centre never stops.

Weaving a camouflage net is work that cannot be automated. A wide-mesh base is stretched across a wall-sized wooden frame, and then, knot by knot, thousands of fabric strips are woven in by hand. The colours are chosen for the season: shades of green in summer, browns and sand tones in autumn.

A single standard-sized net takes a group of women several days. Thirty-six nets in a month means daily work without days off, mostly by people who also hold down a job or run a household during the day.

Nets from centres like this go to the front, where they cover vehicles, dugouts and firing positions. For military units they are a consumable: nets wear out, fade in the sun and are torn by shrapnel, so the need for new ones never disappears.
