September in Kyiv and around Bucha is ending warmer than usual. Over 1–27 September the average temperature at the Kyiv weather station was 16.5°C, while the climate norm for the whole month is 14.9°C.

This is shown by data from the Kyiv weather station and the climate norms of the Borys Sreznevskyi Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the forecast, even the cooler last days of the month will not bring the average down to the norm. The observatory will publish the final September figures, including any records, in early October.

The first ten days were the warmest, averaging about 18.5°C. On 1 September the station already recorded +30.1°C, the highest temperature of the month. On 10 and 11 September the heat returned: +29.3°C and +29.7°C.

The second ten days averaged 16.8°C and the third only 13.1°C. And on 23 September the thermometer fell to +5.9°C.

Rainfall was well above the norm: about 90 mm in 27 days against a norm of 58 mm for the whole of September. Most of it fell in the last ten days: 22 mm on 22 September and 26 mm on 24 September.

This September is far from a record. The warmest September since observations in Kyiv began in 1881 was in 2024, at 20.6°C. Last year’s September averaged 16.8°C.

According to the Bucha FM weather forecast, early October in Bucha will be dry: +16…+19°C by day and +5…+10°C at night. On the night of 3 October it may drop to +2°C, and fog is possible on the mornings of 30 September and 1 October.

As a reminder, the Indian summer will linger in the Bucha area: according to the preliminary forecast of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, October will be close to the climate norm, and frosts in the first half of the month are normal.
