Mobile shelters are to be installed at railway stations in the Kyiv region. The decision and the approvals are already in place — what remains is putting it into practice.

This was announced by the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Tymur Tkachenko.

Through three stages — and on to the communities

The administration described the path of the decision step by step: first agreement with Ukrzaliznytsia itself, then a decision by the Defence Council headquarters, and only after that practical implementation. At the final stage communities will be brought in.

Tkachenko separately names one more resource — large national companies. In his words, their involvement will make the installation of shelters faster and better organised. In other words, the stations alone are not meant to fund and build them.

Why stations

The administration puts the reason plainly: strikes have become constant, and passenger locations of Ukrzaliznytsia are among the targets. The logic of the decision is to shorten the distance between people and a point where they can take cover.

For the Bucha district this is not an abstraction. Thousands of people travel through it to the capital and back every day, and halts and platforms are places where there is simply nowhere to hide during an alert: the nearest structure is often several hundred metres away.

How many shelters will be installed and which stations will get them first has not yet been stated. No timeline has been given either.
