The first case of poisoning by inedible mushrooms this autumn has been recorded in the Irpin community: a man was taken to hospital in critical condition. He is now stable.

This was reported by the Bucha district branch of the regional disease control and prevention centre, Irpin City Council said.

In autumn the risk of poisoning by wild mushrooms rises: they include poisonous species such as fly agarics. Such mushrooms can cause severe poisoning and worsen chronic digestive diseases.

The death cap is especially dangerous. Even a small amount of this mushroom can be deadly.

Doctors advise not picking mushrooms if you are not sure they are safe, not buying wild mushrooms at informal street stalls and not eating any you have the slightest doubt about.

If symptoms of poisoning appear after eating mushrooms, seek medical help as soon as possible. Guidance for mushroom pickers has been published by Irpin City Council.

As a reminder, the flu and respiratory infection season has started in Kyiv region.
