Cybersecurity specialists report a surge in infections of home Android TV boxes and smart devices. The problem was flagged by BEST, the provider most Bucha residents use.

The danger is that the device looks like it is working normally. In the background it passes third-party traffic and eats the owner's bandwidth.
The main symptoms: pages and apps load very slowly, video keeps buffering and freezing.
Latency also rises, the internet drops out partly or completely, and the Wi-Fi signal is there while the network is effectively unusable.
Infected boxes usually end up in botnets: attackers use other people's devices as proxies for their own traffic.
Cheap Android boxes with unofficial firmware are most at risk — the malicious code is often built in at the factory.
