Kofein (Caffeine), a song by the singer GAYARA, is playing on Bucha FM. It is a light, warm track somewhere between Latin pop and reggaeton, the kind that makes you reach for the volume.

Caffeine here is not about addiction. It is what GAYARA calls a person who makes life lighter and brighter: someone who does not change you but makes you stronger.

It is a very precise metaphor for this kind of love. It can give you energy and drive, or it can become a small ritual of calm and pleasure. A loved one is the same: sometimes they lift you up, sometimes they calm you down, but most importantly, next to them you can stay yourself

A morning that is not on any video

The line about dancing in the rain is not made up. After one of the hard nights of air raid alerts and attacks, she and her husband could not fall asleep. They talked for a long time, and then a thunderstorm began.

When the storm passed and only a warm summer rain was left, at about five in the morning they went outside. They ran barefoot across the wet grass and danced like children.

When my husband and I went out to dance in the summer rain, we wanted to wash away all the fear and tension and simply feel that we are here, we are alive, we have each other. We did not even take our phones, there is not a single video or story from that morning. But I will remember it all my life

GAYARA calls this feeling “freedom in love”: being able to stay yourself next to someone and live the way you feel. She has brought that dance in the rain into the Kofein video, which also features her husband.

From a TV karaoke contest to Kofein

GAYARA is Olena Kovalchuk. She used to perform as Melena, won the TV show Karaoke na Maidani in 2007 and sang in the band Dana Voda.

She wrote the anthem Peremoha for the Rivne football club Veres. Her songs include Ukraina Peremozhe, Ya Zakokhalasia and her own version of Sadok Vyshnevyi to words by Taras Shevchenko.

Kofein is part of her cycle of five original singles supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
