From Tuesday, 15 September, a suburban train ticket from Bucha to Kyiv will cost 30 UAH when bought in the Ukrzaliznytsia app and 37 UAH at the ticket counter. For daily commuters that is effectively a doubling of the fare.
The new fares are reported by passenger communities on the Korosten line and by several Telegram channels covering suburban transport. As of Monday evening there is no separate announcement about Kyiv region suburban fares on Ukrzaliznytsia’s website or social media.
What it costs now
The current suburban fares for Kyiv region are published on the Southwestern Railway website: up to 30 kilometres — 15 UAH, 31 to 50 kilometres — 20 UAH. Bucha station is 30.7 kilometres from Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi and about 21 kilometres from Sviatoshyn.
Since 11 March a sales-channel fee is added to the base price: 7 UAH at the counter or on the train, 6.70 UAH at self-service terminals. Only the Ukrzaliznytsia app charges no fee. So today the trip from Bucha to Kyiv costs 15–20 UAH via the app and 22–27 UAH at the counter.

Following the city train’s example
The new figures repeat the Kyiv City Express fare that Ukrzaliznytsia introduced from 22 July: 30 UAH in the app, 34.20 via validators, 36.70 at terminals and 37 at the counter. At the time the company explained the rise by the growing cost of train repairs and electricity and by Kyiv’s debt for carrying concession passengers. Concessions for pensioners, veterans and students were kept.
Whether the same conditions will apply to Kyiv region suburban trains, and whether season tickets for daily commuters will appear, Ukrzaliznytsia has not yet clarified. The company’s official announcement is below.
Update: Ukrzaliznytsia confirms the new fares
On the evening of 15 September Ukrzaliznytsia officially announced a switch to a six-zone fare system on suburban trains: within a zone the price is fixed regardless of distance. In Kyiv, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr regions the new fares apply from 15 September, from 22 September in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Cherkasy regions, and later elsewhere.

Bucha, Irpin, Vorzel and Sviatoshyn all fall into the first zone, so 30 UAH in the app is confirmed; 37 UAH at the counter is the same fare plus the sales-channel fee. The company explains the rise by administrations’ debts for concession passengers and higher electricity and fuel costs; it says the change will keep existing routes and stops and free more money for train repairs.
Advice for passengers
- buy tickets in the Ukrzaliznytsia app — the price there is the lowest and there is no fee;
- check the fare before travelling: it depends on the distance and the sales channel;
- concession passengers should keep obtaining their free travel documents at the counters, as before.
As a reminder, in the summer two suburban trains in the Bucha district were replaced by regional trains, and in August new express trains to Kyiv were launched through Bucha.
