The Transfiguration, known popularly as the Apple Feast of the Saviour, is one of the greatest Christian holidays. It symbolises spiritual renewal, faith, hope and gratitude for the gifts of the earth.

The festive services were reported by Bucha City Council.

What the shared prayer was about

During the services, worshippers asked God for peace for Ukraine, for health and strength — and for divine protection for the country's defenders.

They prayed separately for a blessing on every Ukrainian family.

A feast with two names

The popular name comes from the old tradition of blessing the first fruits of the new harvest on this day — above all apples, pears and grapes.

The city council congratulated the community on the feast, wishing that it fill every home with peace and harmony and strengthen faith and confidence in Ukraine's future.
