Monitoring stations recorded elevated air pollution — carbon dioxide and fine particulate matter, which is produced precisely by fires.

The data was released by the Bucha District State Administration.

Where the excess levels were recorded

Daily average observations found elevated levels in Vyshneve, Obukhiv and Brovary. Raised concentrations of fine particulates were also recorded in Ivankiv, Boyarka and Vasylkiv.

In the region's other monitored settlements no breaches of permitted concentrations were found. Gamma radiation levels match the natural background.

Who is most at risk

Fires release combustion products and fine solid particles into the air. They affect above all people with respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, children, older people and pregnant women.

Until the situation improves, specialists advise keeping windows closed, limiting long periods outdoors, drinking enough water and, if an air purifier is available, running it at maximum.

How the monitoring works

As of 5 August, air monitoring in the Kyiv region is carried out at 16 observation points. Among them are Irpin, Vyshneve and Boyarka.

Observations run around the clock automatically — provided the equipment has uninterrupted power.
