The story is typical of a city under intensive development. After laying utility networks the developer restored the pavement poorly — and within two years the surface sank. A significant slope made walking harder still.

First Deputy Mayor of Irpin Oleksandr Pashchynskyi reported on the progress of the works on the city council website.

Prams suffered most

The city council names those the sunken, sloping pavement hindered most: parents with prams and residents with reduced mobility. For them, tilted and uneven paving turns an ordinary walk into an obstacle easier to bypass via the roadway — which is already a safety issue.

The developer's contractor is currently laying kerbstones and preparing the base for the new surface. The base is the key part: if it is not properly compacted, the paving will sink again and in two years everything will repeat.

The city budget is not paying

One detail matters: the work is being done by the developer's contractor, not by a municipal utility at the community's expense. The party that caused the defect was made to fix it — a practice not always seen in the towns of the Kyiv region.

Once the works are complete, residents will have a renewed pavement with a normal gradient and an even surface.

What has already been repaired this year

Using city budget funds, Irpin has already carried out major repairs this year on roads with pavements on Troitska Street — the stretch from Hromadianska to Lychaka — and on Ukrainska Street, from building 83 to Mineralna Street.

Next in line are major road repairs with new pavements on Verykivskoho Street, from Vasylia Stusa to Ivana Dracha, and on Vyhovskoho Street, from Vysoka to Mechnykova.
