Construction of the military memorial sector — the place where the community’s Heroes are buried — continues at the Irpin cemetery. Acting mayor Anzhela Makeieva described what has been done there and what is being worked on now.

What is already finished

Drip irrigation has been installed. The lighting poles are in place — they are the basis of the lighting system in the design; the contractor is still waiting for the fixtures and electrical equipment. Paving and granite laying continues, and the columbarium is being built.

The heaviest concrete work — at the Wall of Tears and the farewell area — has been completed. The concrete has set, and external cladding of the walls will begin shortly.

A demand met in full

One of the demands of the families of the fallen — and Makeieva’s own personal demand — was a complete ban on heavy machinery entering the grave sector. According to her, it has been met one hundred per cent: not once has machinery driven in, and all the heavy concrete work was done almost by hand.

There is a lot of such work in the project, so construction is slower than it could be with machines. That is a deliberate choice.

Why they are being asked to hurry

Makeieva holds weekly working meetings with the contractor. This time she asked them to speed up the paving and granite work — so that it is finished before the autumn rains begin.

“Every Hero of our community will have a dignified memory,” she concluded.
